Problems with 0.5.8?

I've been receiving comments that my extension is defaulting to French.
I've no idea why this would be and I can't seem to replicate the problem. If anyone can reproduce this, then please let me know.
In the meantime, for those that are experience problems, I suggest going to Tools -> Translate -> Options -> English. Hopefully this will sort things out.

actually i was using v5.5 and noticed the same issue. i upgraded to v5.8 and see no difference. English is selected by default. Selecting another language only reduces the number of languages i can translate from. re-selecting 'English' restores them, but menu is always in french.

just thought you might want to know...

I found the reason for the problem. It is caused by an extension that corrupts the chrome.rdf file. Make a new profile and it will work!

Do you know which extension it was that was corrupting chrome.rdf?

When it released a higher version fit to FireFox 1.0 ?
Thanks your hard work . !

I've been hearing the same issues occuring with Foxytunes which also has a french Localization.
Not sure what the deal is but I haven't had troubles with it yet...

Really any extension that has the local.rdf file written incorrectly will corrupt the chrome.rdf file. One was Advanced Highlighter Button 1.4.1.

I have this problem as well. I just installed the extension today on PR 1.0, and regardless of the options selection, the menu is always in French.

It seems that the menus being in French is due to a corrupt chrome.rdf. Try installing into a new profile.

After reading this thread at MozillaZine, I was able to fix my profile by removing the entry in question from chrome.rdf. (I had previously uninstalled Advanced Search Button, but apparently it left behind its damage to my profile.) The section I removed was this:

I’m having a strange problem with v5.8 in FireFox 1.0PR (10.1) — I get no child menus, neither in the right-click on a page nor selected text (I do see the “Translate →” parent menu, but no child menus will come from it at all — not even an empty menu pane!), and I get a similar problem in the “Tools / Translate → / Options →” (which shows only a very tiny [about 8×6 pixels], completely empty menu pane — indeed, from “Translate →”, the child menu there contains only the “Options →” below a horizontal groove such as usually used to separate sections of menu items in a single menu, but there are no items above the groove, nor even space for any!).

How can I get this to work? I assume, given the French problems described herein, that my “chrome.rdf” is messed up somehow. But how can I fix it?
